Gujarat — Tribes and Traditions
Documentary Photography Project | Western India

A documentary photography project focused on tribal and marginal communities in Gujarat, Western India, exploring traditions, identity, and everyday life within a complex social landscape.

Gujarat is home to diverse communities such as the Rabari herders, the Siddi descendants, and the women of Danetha — each carrying distinct histories shaped by migration, resilience, faith, and belonging. These portraits and scenes trace a cultural mosaic where ancestral practices and contemporary realities coexist.

Through attire, ritual, gesture, and daily routine, the images reveal both continuity and transformation. What emerges is not a fixed portrait of tradition, but a living social fabric, fragile and enduring at once.

This work seeks to offer an intimate and respectful look into a territory where identity is constantly negotiated between memory, survival, and change.
